Summary
The completely decarbonized ash residue of rice hulls was mixed with 15% hydrated lime and subjected to different conditions of hydrothermal treatments.
Results showed that a calcium silicate hydrate probably an ill defined form of tobermorite, is the main component of the cured samples together with small residual amounts of hydrated silica and lime.
The products obtained showed reasonable values of apparent porosity, bulk density and water absorption as well as high compressive strength. These properties became more improved on treating the materials at higher steam pressure, a case which is probably connected with the formation of a more well defined form of tobermorite at such condition.
