Summary
From 1994–1997 serum samples taken from 245 wild boar from Northrhine-Westfalia and Rhineland-Palatinate were investigated for leptospirosis. The microscopic agglutination test (MAT) was conducted with 12 serovars belonging to 3 species of pathogenic Leptospira.
Of 245 samples 59 (24 %) showed leptospirosis MAT reactions in serum dilutions of 1:100 to 1:800. While 37 wild boar reacted to one and 16 specimens reacted to two serovars, only 6 animals reacted to more than two serovars of leptospires. The serovars were of the following pathogenic species:Leptospira (L.) interrogans (serovars bratislava, - copenhageni),L. borgpertersenii (serovar tarassovi);L. kirschneri. (serovar grippotyphosa).
