Summary
The porphyrin derivative meso-tetra (4-N-methyl-pyridyl) porphine tetraiodide (TMpyP) was tested for its ability to induce sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) inAllium cepa roots. A significant increase in the SCE frequency was observed when BrdU-substituted chromosomes were treated with TMpyP during the G1 period of the second-division cycle and also when treatment with TMpyP was followed by blue light irradiation.
