The economic development of the FRG and USA a principal-components-analysis

Summary

The economic development of the FRG and the USA has been analysed for the years 1965–75 using the principal components method. This method not only served to combine information but also to test hypotheses regarding different cyclical data-pattern as well as different degrees of interdependence in time for the FRG and the USA. This was done by the introduction of synthetic regular statistical series and by subdivision of the mentioned period. It was shown that the direct link between both countries via trade has been weakened but the simultaneity of economic development after the oil-price shock has been strengthened.
