Summary

Spectrophotometric Determination of Ethionamide and Thionicotinamide with Osmic Acid

A new selective spectrophotometric method of determining micro-amounts of ethionamide and thionicotinamide is described based on the reaction of these compounds with osmic acid.

The stoichiometry of the complex was found to be 1∶1. The application range of the method is from 0.25 to 40μg/ml for ethionamide and from 0.25 to 30μg/ml for thionicotinamide. Ethionamide can be determined in pharmaceutical dragees containing other components. Thionicotinamide and ethionamide can both be determined in mixtures containing a large excess of nicotinic and isonicotinic acids and vitamine PP.
