Conclusions

  1. 1.

Tetraalkylammonium perchlorates R4NClO4(R=CH3, C2H5, C4H9) interact with BCl3 in CHCl3 medium, forming solid adducts R4NClO4·BCl3(II), stable at room temperature. With excess BCl3, (Ia-c) and CsClO4 react without a solvent.

  2. 2.

According to the data of the IR spectra, the adducts obtained are constructed from R4N+ cations and [Cl3BOClO3] anions. One of the oxygens of the perchlorato group of the anion is bonded to a boron atom by a donor-acceptor bond.

  3. 3.

    When (CH3)4N[Cl3BOClO3] is heated, it loses BCl3 above 170‡; (C2H5)4-N[Cl3BOClO3] and (C4H9)4 N[Cl3BOClO3] decompose without loss of BGl3 with autooxidation-reduction at 205–230‡.
