Abstract
Factor analysis was performed to determine dimensions of behavioral disturbance common to three groups of emotionally disturbed children in Massachusetts. Altogether 510 children were studied prospectively using Rutter's 26-item scale for rating behavioral disorders. Male and female subgroups were studied separately as well as the total population for each type of school. Altogether ten factors analyses were performed. All ten yielded similar factors. The seven most important factors were identified and discussed. We were unable to identify higher order relationships using factor scores.
