Abstract
A pilot study was conducted with graduating senior medical students at New Mexico regarding the reasons for their specialty choice. Findings showed that in general students chose specialties based on an idealistic conception of how they could apply their skills in the area; however, students choosing psychiatry did so with different reasons.
