Abstract

From a technical viewpoint, LEDs represent the ideal replacement for halogen and Xenon headlights.They have a longer service life, provide greater energy efficiency and offer more freedom for designers. The new technology will also play an important role in camera-based assistance systems, because in future it will be possible to develop adaptive control functions which are more intelligent and have fewer mechanical components. LED technology also offers the potential for developing light-based driver assistance systems, for miniaturisation, for simpler design and for heat management. Current research projects are focusing on OLEDs for interior lighting with funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
