Troost in de psychoanalytische psychotherapie

Abstract

‘Our best refuge and convoy through life is the vehicle for solace(Grotstein, 1988).’

In dit artikel wordt betoogd dat het bieden en vinden van troost moet worden beschouwd als een belangrijke voorwaarde voor een goed verlopend therapeutisch proces. De geleidelijke internalisering van de troostende houding van de therapeut maakt het de patiënt mogelijk om zichzelf te troosten. Hierdoor kan een gestagneerd ontwikkelingsproces in de therapeutische relatie weer op gang worden gebracht. Deze opvatting wordt ingekaderd in de veranderende visie op de betekenis van de therapeutische relatie. Ook wordt ingegaan op de techniek van het troosten in psychotherapie.
