Vroegtijdige Interventie Prematuren (vip)

Early Intervention for Preterm infants (vip): Effect measurement after five to ten years of school results and psychological and behavioural problems, Kind en Adolescent, 26 (2), 202-213.

Summary: Children born preterm are at a greater risk of developing psychological and behavioural problems than children born at term. Early psychosocial interventions are advised, but results of effectiveness studies vary; more long term research is needed. This retrospective case-control study examined the effect of the Dutch Early Intervention for Preterm infants (vip). Preterm and low birth weight children – aged five through ten – who received this intervention during infancy (n = 69) were compared with a control group (n = 69) for school results and psychological and be havioural problems (cbcl). No differences were found. A ‘ceiling effect’ was ruled out and thus long term effectiveness is not supported.

Keywords: preterm, low birth weight, intervention, prevention, effectiveness.
