Concluding remarks
Even though the solar conditions and the distribution of interplanetary fields may differ in detail for eaeh of the five great cosmic flare events, it is likely that the dominant mode of propagation in the solar system is the same for all five events. If so, this raises the question of why some great flares produce cosmic rays and others do not appear to do so.
