Diane Ravitch is John M. Olin Professor of Educational Policy and Senior Research Scholar at New York University, as well as a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. She is the author ofNational Standards in American Education: A Citizen’s Guide (1995). She is a historian of education and was assistant secretary of education in the Bush administration.
