Conclusion
I recognize the complexity of enabling future teachers to apply technology. Political and budgetary issues existing at individual teacher education institutions add to the complexity. This discussion is offered as a contribution to the ongoing dialogue among all concerned persons. Teacher educators, in addition to attending to state adopted proficiencies, must exchange ideas with each other, with students, with school teachers and administrators, and with members of the community. There is also need for related research that can guide the teacher education effort (see Robin, Price, Willis & Willis, 1996).
No one denies the pervasiveness of technology in today’s world. Teacher educators must continually strive to prepare preservice teachers for dealing with that world and for enabling their own K-12 students to meet tomorrow’s societal and technological challenges. ⋏
