Summary
In a comparative study free amino acids in blood-serum of 7 weman and 12 men in good health have been determined.
Most of the amino acids showed lower levels in the serum of female subjects.
In the female group significantly lower average values were found for valine, isoleucine and leucine. The concentrations of bound phenylalanine and tyrosine were markedly lower, taurine and free cystine higher than in the male group.
The levels of several amino acids in serum of a pregnant woman were found to be decreased compared with the values of the nonpregnant weman.
Physiological and chemical correlations are discussed.
