Summary
The periodontal ligament of upper first premolars has been examined in young boys subsequent to a tipping movement using fixed appliances. Destructive as well as reconstructive changes were related to the direction of applied forces and to the tissue structure. Special emphasis was placed on the discrepancy in biochemical behavior between oxytalan and collagen fibers.
