Abstract

From 1966 to 1970, 101 cases of verified acute lung damage due to inhalation of phosgene and nitrose gas were observed in Switzerland. Two of the workers exposed to nitrose gas died of acute pulmonary edema. Up to 1972, none of the 99 survivors developed pulmonary disability. Pulmonary function tests and chest x-rays, performed in regular intervals on 9 men, did not show any significant abnormalities 7 to 8 months after the occurrence of pulmonary edema caused by inhalation of nitrose gas.
