Spinal epidural abscess: An unusual complication of bacterial endocarditis

Summary

We are reporting a case of epidural abscess complicating bacterial endocarditis. To the best of our knowledge, this association has not been reported before.Streptococcus sanguis was isolated from the blood. A full recovery followed surgery and antibiotic therapy. The relevant characteristics of both diseases are reviewed. No explanation for this rare association is available as yet.

Zusammenfassung

Wir berichten über einen Fall von Epiduralabszeß als Komplikation einer bakteriellen Endokarditis. Soweit wir wissen, wurde eine solche Assoziation bisher noch nicht mitgeteilt. Aus dem Blut wurdeStreptococcus sanguis isoliert. Operation und Antibiotikatherapie führten zur vollständigen Heilung. Beide Erkrankungen werden in ihren wesentlichen Zügen diskutiert. Für diese seltene Assoziation gibt es bisher keine Erklärung.
