Für PrandtlzahlenP, die der RelationP ≪ β1/3 ≪ 1 genügen (\ ist das Verhältnis zwischen den thermischen Leitfähigkeiten der Wand und des Fluid), sind zweidimensionale Rollen bevorzugt im Gegensatz zur quadratartigen Konvektion, welche die bevorzugte stabile Konvektionsform im BereichP ≫ β1/3 darstellt.
