Abstract
This paper generalises preliminary results obtained in the Smart Text Project being conducted at the Center for Electronic Studying, University of Oregon and at the Institute of Information Technologies, Odessa State Academy of Refrigeration (Ukraine). One of the aims of the project is to develop an appropriate design methodology for the building of text materials with embedded intelligent agents, providing readers with personal assistance while reading the text. Four main topics are discussed: electronic text enhanced by means of cognitive resources; enhanced text with embedded intelligent agents ideas; dialogue behaviour as an environment of knowledge interchange between the reader and the intelligent text; and, Smart Text “agency” architecture.
