Conclusions
In terms of the mineral compositions, the raw material investigated here are clays of the kaolinite type. The clays are basic in terms of the chemical composition, their refractoriness is 1730°C, their plasticity is in class 1, but they are significantly inferior to monothermite-containing Chasov-Yar clay.
The clays do not sinter easily, i.e., the sintering range is 1300–1500°C.
The analyzed clay samples fully conform to the specifications of ChMTU 6-55-69 for refractory clay grade Ch1 from the Chasov-Yar deposits.
The clays of the Don deposits can be used for the production of aluminosilicate refractories either as chamotte or as binder.
