Polyribosomes associated with the Golgi apparatus

Summary

Polyribosomes appear to be associated with the forming faces of plant dictyosomes, though it is difficult to demonstrate conclusively because of the lack of positional markers. InEuglena gracilis, a much clearer positional relationship between dictyosomes and ribosomes is visible. Here polyribosomes are aligned in a space delimited on one side by endoplasmic reticulum and on the other side by a dictyosome cisterna. The associated cisterna of endoplasmic reticulum is always rough-surfaced and spaced a uniform distance from the immature face of the dictyosome. The Golgi apparatus-associated ribosomes may synthesize some of the proteins specific to the Golgi apparatus.
