Summary

  1. 1.

The tissue culture technique based upon development of cytopathic changes is a convenient and economical method to determine the pH and temperature ranges for inactivation of rinderpest virus.

  2. 2.

The virus was rapidly inactivated at pH values of 3.0 and below, 11.0 and above, as well as at a temperature of 75° C and above.

  3. 3.

Comparative tests in tissue cultures and in cattle suggest that the animal assay was the more sensitive one to demonstrate minute quantities of residual infectious virus.
