Transient free convection flow around two-dimensional or axisymmetric bodies

Summary

A general analysis of the effects of curvature and displacement in unsteady free convection flows around two dimensional or axi-symmetric bodies is considered by taking the surface temperature as a power function of time. The full Navier-Stokes equations including the buoyancy term are solved using the method of matched asymptotic expansions and complete analytical solutions are obtained for velocity and temperature distributions. The application of the present theory to particular body shapes is shown by considering the free convection flow past a horizontal circular cylinder and a sphere.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird der Einfluß von Krümmung und Verdrängung in instationären, freien Konvektionsströmungen um zweidimensionale oder achsensymmetrische Körper mit einer allgemeinen Theorie untersucht. Die Oberflächentemperatur wird als eine Potenzfunktion der Zeit angenommen.

Es werden die vollen Navier-Stokes-Gleichungen einschließlich des Auftriebsglieds gelöst, und zwar wird die Methode der angepaßten asymptotischen Entwicklung (matched asymptotic expansion) verwendet. Es werden die vollständig analytischen Lösungen für Geschwindigkeits- und Temperaturverteilung erhalten.

Es wird die Anwendung der vorgelegten Theorie auf spezielle Körperformen gegeben, indem die freie Konvektionsströmung um einen horizontalen Kreiszylinder sowie um eine Kugel behandelt wird.
