Abstract
A measure of the effectiveness of the thermal insulation of plasma in systems of the “Tokamak” type is the value of the so-called energy retention time in the plasmaE. In this paper we give the values ofE, calculated from measurements of the diamagnetic signal, for various discharge conditions in two systems of very different dimensions. We show that, for the greater part of the discharge, the lifetime greatly exceeds the value calculated from the well-known Bohm formula. There is a significant difference between the values of electron temperature calculated from measurements of the diamagnetic signal and the electrical conductivity.
