Mating pheromones of heterobasidiomycetous yeasts

Abstract

Two mating pheromones, which induce mating tube formation, were isolated fromRhodosporidium toruloides (rhodotorucineA) andTremella mesenterica (tremerogenA-10). These mating pheromones are lipophilic oligopeptides having S-alkylated cysteine at the C-terminus but different amino acid sequences. Synthetic analogues of these pheromones revealed the structure-activity relationships. Metabolism of rhodotorucineA was also studied by using labeled pheromones.
