Conclusions

  1. 1.

During irradiation with light with a wavelength <500 nm, phosphine hydride complexes MH4L4, where M=Mo or W and L=PMePh2 or 1/2Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2, react with molecular nitrogen with formation of trans-dinitrogen complexes M(N2)2L4.

  2. 2.

The reactivity of phosphine hydride complexes of molybdenum in this photoreaction is higher than that of analogs of tungsten.

  3. 3.

The formation mechanisms of trans-dinitrogen complexes of molybdenum with monodentate and bidentate ligands are very different.
