Abstract

We present a three parameters transformation useful in the study of the finite displacements of thin rods. The changes of orientation of the body are constructed in two invertible independant steps to which simple physical significations can be attributed: deflection and twist. Different expressions are given and a comparison with the Eulerian angles is made.
