Temperature evolution of the exchanges at the interface between an4He liquid film and its vapor

Abstract

We report simultaneous measurements of both thickness and temperature oscillations associated to a third sound wave propagating in a pure4He film. Third sound is excited either thermally or using an original electromechanical technique. To account for our data we present a description of the exchange mechanisms across the interface between the superfluid film and the vapor. Comparison with our measurements yields a general agreement and gives access to information on the Onsager coefficient.
