Summary
200 guinea-pigs showed immunizing tendencies against factor “LW” which is closely related to the Rh'-antigen. In case the antigen was transferred to newborn guinea-pigs already within the first 6 hours after birth, these animals were unable to develop the respective specific antibodies later on. In all of 167 cases an immune-tolerance had developed, which possibly can be explained by a special overburdening of the immature immune-system shortly post partum.
The tendency for immunization against human erythrocytes in general was maintained. It is discussed whether application of the Rh-antigens to human rh-negative new-borns may achieve an immune-tolerance to the Rh-antigen.
