Abstract
A simple procedure for the oxidation of benzyl alcohols to aldehydes is described. The oxidizing agent is hypobromite generated by the anodic oxidation of aqueous bromide and the reactions are carried outin situ in an undivided cell in an amyl acetate/water emulsion containing 2% tetrabutylammonium bisulphate.
