Summary
Virus Coxsackie Group A, Type 5 was isolated from the content of vesicles obtained from the soles of two girls with Hand, Foot and Mouth disease. The vesicles are located intra-epidermally. Neither inclusion bodies nor giant cells were observed. Electron microscopic studies revealed intranuclear electron-dense particles surrounded by a membrane within the nucleus. These particles, presumably RNA viruses, have not been previously reported within the nucleus of epidermal cells.
