Summary
The tetraphenylstibonium compounds of fluoride, chloride, bromide, iodide, thiocyanate, nitrate, dichromate, chlorite, chlorate, and perchlorate (the latter at low concentrations only) can be extracted from acid aqueous solutions by chloroform. Sulphate, phosphate, and borate are not extracted, permanganate is reduced by the reagent. The anions can be backextracted from the chloroform layer by diluted aqueous sodium hydroxide solutions, while the reagent remains in the organic phase as tetraphenylstibonium hydroxide.
