Summary
Flavonoid-complexes of metals were extracted from powdered onions by methanol/water. After further extraction with chloroform and internal standardization with gallium-oxinate iron, copper, zinc and calcium were directly determined in the ng/g range by TXRF. Parallel determination of copper by means of flame-AAS gave consistent results with the TXRF analysis. After addition of 5 μm copper to 2 g sample, 56% of the copper was coordinated by flavonoids.
