Changes in behavior and electrocortical activity in the monkey following administration of 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP)

Summary

Simultaneous measurements of the behavioral and electrocortical effects of the serotonin precursor, 5-hydroxytryptophan, have been made in rhesus monkeys. Intramuscular injections of 50, 75, 100 mg/kg doses depressed the monkeys' rate of responding in proportion to the amount of the compound injected. The changes in the electrocortical activity of the animals were correlated with the changes in their behavior.
