Summary

Cross sections through capillaries in the villi of the human and guinea pig jejunum reveal a polarization of the structure of the capillary wall. That side of the wall which faces the epithelium of the gut is very thin and characterized by the presence of endothelial pores whereas the opposite side is much thicker and without pores. This side also contains the cell nuclei.
