Carcinoma of the prostate: Diagnosis and staging

Current status and future prospects

  • Published:
World Journal of Urology Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

No simple screening test for prostatic cancer (CaP) is yet available. Likewise, in most cases, accurate staging requires surgical exploration to determine nodal metastases although there are no data to support the concept that pelvic lymphadenectomy cures nodal disease. Future developments which may significantly alter our ability to diagnose and stage CaP include hybridoma techniques, nuclear magnetic resonance and positron imaging tomography.
