Summary
The histology and clinical processes of eight papilloma inversum cases have been examined. Three groups were classified:
-
1.
papillary hyperplasia;
-
2.
nonmalignant form;
-
3.
malignant form.
A definite demarcation of the first two groups is not possible. The malignant form can be distinguished from the former two groups by its dominance of low differentiated basal cellular epithelia with an accumulation of atypical nuclei and mitosis, but without infiltrating growth. The transformation of the benign form into malignant is not often. The degeneration to carcinoma is seldom. One has to estimate a clear demarcation against the papillary growing carcinoma. By radical removal of the mostly so-called maxillo-ethmoidal angle developing tumour, the relapses of the benign forms are seldom. In comparison with the forms mentioned above, the prognosis of the malignant form, which is characteristic in the destructive rate of growth, is worse. Success in x-ray therapy is doubtful and it can only be observed in connection with the radical operation-therapy.
