Backscattering from two fluid-filled cylindrical cavities in an elastic solid

Abstract

The results of the analysis of the backscattering phenomena in the case of incident P-waves are presented. Spectral structures for backscattering waves from two circular cylindrical fluid inclusions in a solid are illustrated with 3D graphic forms. The fluid is compressible and inviscid. The analysis method used here is the “orders of scattering” approach.

From the power-spectrum inspection, two kinds of periodical variations of intensity can be found. In one kind of periodicity, resulting from the geometrical interaction of the scattering waves, the interval becomes shorter with an increase of the center-to-center distance of the two cavities. Another kind of periodicity has periodical abrupt intensity diminutions, which are caused by the resonant frequencies of the cavities filled with acoustic fluid. These features are presented in 3D graphic form.
