Summary
The composition and depth distribution of particulate carbohydrates for 5 stations in the Bransfield Strait is discussed in relation to phytoplankton species composition. Glucose being the most prominent sugar at diatom dominated stations is reduced by 70% from the surface to 100 m depth whereas total carbohydrates show a 40% degradation. Values for a haptophyceae dominated station are 95 and 80%, respectively.
