Abstract
In any water system, losses can be evidenced, which represent one of the most persistent problems. In the case of Ecuador, there is an average of 48.3% of unaccounted-for water, according to the Regulation and Control Agency del Agua (ARCA), These losses occur mainly due to leaks, bad connections, or aging, which cause the system to be less than optimal. Therefore, the objective of this study was to calculate the unaccounted-for water index (IANC) of the Administrative Building at Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE, with 32 years of operation of the entire system, for this, the water flow was considered that enters the building during hours of greatest consumption, performing an analysis of the database provided by a flow meter installed on site that uses Internet of Things (IoT) technology, and taking into account that the University It does not have invoiced data since the water source is located within the campus itself, thus, it was related to the output flows of sewage discharged into the sewer through a sampling campaign, obtaining with this an index of losses of water, through a water balance of 19.77% for the building, therefore, it was determined that it is below the average percentage of water losses at the Ecuadorian level. However, the water losses are considerable taking into account that in the ESPE water is scarce.
