Definition
Bone health is as a public health issue. Maintaining a healthy skeleton is an important andcomplex process. Many things can interfere with the development of healthy bones. For instance, genetic abnormalities, nutritional deficiencies and hormonal disorders can affect the skeleton. In addition, lack of exercise, immobilization, alcohol use, certain medications and smoking can also have negative effects on bone mass and strength. Many disorders can also affect the skeleton. Anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder that primarily affects adolescent girls and young women, associated with low bone mineral density and osteoporosis in adults.
