Abstract

Tourism companies adopt the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to improve their operations’ administration and satisfy and facilitate the services demanded by tourists, so it is evident that they are a tool related to tourist spending. This research aims to determine the ratio of international tourist spending based on ICT indicators included in the travel and tourism competitiveness index. It is a quantitative research approach with two linear regression models (simple and multiple) contemplating five indicators for 50 countries in 2017 and 2018. The results of the simple linear regression show that the indicator that had the most significant relationship with tourist spending was digital demand for cultural and entertainment tourism, followed using the Internet for business-to-consumer transactions. For the multiple linear regression, it was found that four of the five indicators studied were significant (the digital demand for cultural and entertainment tourism, the use of ICTs for transactions between companies, the use of the Internet for business-to-consumer transactions, and individuals who use the Internet) since together they have a more significant impact on the spending of tourists at an international level, and all their predictors were significant. The study provides important data since the use of ICT has a growth trend, so tourism companies must make decisions and invest in technological resources to increase the competitiveness of tourist destinations.
