Abstract
This chapter focuses on the extent to which progress is being made in the Asia-Pacific region in achieving the goals of Education for All and the education targets embedded in the Sustainable Development Goals. It seeks to identify the conditions under progress that are being made in assuring access to education at each level of education and the programs being employed to improve quality and inclusion, as well as to overcome barriers such as poverty, gender, ethnicity, disabilities, location, and conflict. Building on the work of UNESCO’s International Commission on Education for the Twenty-First Century, it focuses on what needs to be done to ensure that education empowers learners and nations with the knowledge, skills, and qualities needed to address the challenges facing them (e.g., Covid-19, climate change, and conflict) and to assure our common future.
