Abstract

The localizer mode of the automatic flight control system for civil aircraft can control the aircraft to roll and align with the runway center line, so as to improve the automation of the approach and landing. During the airline operation of civil aircraft, there are two problems related to the mode that are the localizer capture overshoot issue and the localizer signal disturbance issue. An optimal design scheme is proposed to solve the two problems. The low-frequency error detection of the localizer signal and the interception angle limit is used to deal with the localizer signal disturbance. The localizer pre capture mode allowing turning in advance outside the selected guidance sector is proposed to solve the overshoot issue caused by geometry limit. The lateral distance is especially proposed as the control target of the localizer control law to avoid overshoot during approach on the long-distance runway.
