About the author

Prof. Shijian Yuan is a leader of the innovation team of Chang Jiang Scholars Program of the Ministry of Education, China, and Distinguished Young Scholars of Chinese National Science Funding. He has been engaged in the field of hydroforming of complex-shaped thin-walled integrated structures for a long time. Prof. Yuan developed the theory and method of controlling three-dimensional deformation based on high-pressure fluid medium loading, invented the hybrid pressure hydroforming process for large complex curved surface thin-walled structures, developed a series of numerical control hydroforming presses, and established the complete technology systems of theory/process/equipment for hydroforming. His outcomes have been widely used in the new generation of launch vehicles and aircraft and successfully applied in the mass production of key automobiles components. He obtained Second Class Prize for the State Technology Innovation Award and Second Class Prize for the State Science and Technology Advancement Award. He has published more than 200 SCI papers and 60 authorized invention patents of China. The number of SCI papers related to hydroforming ranks No. 1 in the world according to the database of Web of Science. He is the executive member of Standing Advisory Board of International Conference on Technology of Plasticity (ICTP), Chairman of China Society for Technology of Plasticity, Standing member of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society and China Society of Automotive Engineers. In addition, he is also Editor-in-Chief of Materials Science and Technology, associate Editors of Journal of Plasticity Engineering, etc.
