Abstract
Studies of Central Asian religious history and identity are enmeshed in a complex web of religious, cultural, linguistic, economic and political dynamics taking shape in the international arena, particularly those triggered by the Soviet collapse, the post-911 ‘War on Terror,’ the rise of China and the reassertion of expansionist ambitions in Russia, most recently in Ukraine.
