Abstract

The mechanical and wear behaviour of a hybrid (AA 3003-O) aluminium alloy composite with parameters such as different volume fractions of white fly ash and SiC particles alongside varied particle sizes of SiC were optimized using the Taguchi method. In contrast to experiments with grey fly ash, white fly ash has been utilized in this study to prepare the hybrid composite. The tensile strength was measured experimentally in accordance with the resulting aluminium hybrid composites from the L9 orthogonal array. The orthogonal array analysis of variance and signal-to-noise ratio was used to study the individual effect of parameters on reinforced aluminium hybrid composites. The predicted values of optimal combination on testing parameters obtained through the Taguchi approach have a close correlation to that of experimentally observed values. It was also observed that the mathematical models developed were found to have statistically significance.
