Abstract
Treatment options after an ACL injury need to be determined by combining the patient’s symptoms, signs, and life, work, and sports status. The goal of ACL reconstruction is to restore the stability and kinematics of the knee, to avoid further injury or limitation of motion due to joint instability, and to avoid premature joint degeneration. In summary, the goal of ACL reconstruction is to address the present symptoms on the one hand and to prevent long-term adverse consequences on the other.
