Abstract

In today’s world visually challenged person are 6.6 trillion in number and its keep on increasing every year. Through survey it is found that in today’s life it’s been very challenging for them to live. To help them we have designed a new product called Blind Book reader system. It’s a simple solution to make the blind people to read books, newspapers when they are in need. A webcam will be connected to the processor which will take photo copy of the newspaper. This image will be converted into text and then converted into voice. This voice output will be in English format which is an existing one. The best part of our project is this English voice can be translated into our local languages such as Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi etc. The main goal of this research chapter is to introduce a new device for visually challenged people to read the content from printed or handwritten paper. The entire system has been done with OCR algorithm. Results proved that OCR works better than existing algorithms in terms of accuracy.
